Polyhedron Laboratories performs wet chemistry
testing according to ASTM standards, such as Acrylic Acid (ASTM
D4094), % Ash (ASTM D297), % Carbon Black (ASTM D297, Part 38 and
ASTM D1603) and Isocyanate Amine Equivalence (ASTM D5155). Polyhedron
also offers additional wet chemistry testing including
Double Bonds by m-chloroperoxybenzoic Acid Oxidation and High
Pressure Polymer Hydrolysis and Titration for Percentage Acid. All
ASTM standard descriptions below are paraphrased from the ASTM
website (www.astem.org).
Due to copyright restrictions, Polyhedron Laboratories cannot
make available copies of standards. Standards can be found and are

ASTM D4094-00 - Standard Test Method for Acid Content of
Ethylene-Acrylic Acid Copolymers - This test procedure deals with
the determination of the acid content of ethylene-acrylic acid (EAA)
copolymers with 2.5 to 25% weight of acrylic acid.
ASTM D297-93e2 - Standard Test Methods for Rubber
Products-Chemical Analysis - These test procedures deal with the
quantitative and qualitative analysis (including ash analysis and
fillers analysis, including % Carbon Black) of the composition of
rubber products. Many of these test routines can be used for the
analysis of synthetic and natural crude rubbers.
ASTM D1603-06 - Standard Test Method for Carbon Black Content in
Olefin Plastics - This test procedure deals with the determination
of the carbon black content in polypropylene, polyethylene, and
polybutylene plastics. Determinations of carbon black content are
completed gravimetrically after pyrolysis of the specimen under
nitrogen.
ASTM D5155-01 - Standard Test Methods for
Polyurethane Raw Materials Determination of the Isocyanate Content
of Aromatic Isocyanates - These test procedures
determine the isocyanate content of aromatic isocyanates used as
polyurethane raw materials. Test Procedure A - Unheated
toluene-dibutylamine establishes the amount of toluene diisocyanate
in refined toluene-2,4-diisocyanate and toluene-2,6-diisocyanate, or
mixtures of the two. If other isomers are present, they will be
included in the determination. This test routine can also be applied
to other isocyanates of suitable solubility and reactivity. Test
Procedure B - Heated toluene-dibutylamine establishes the amine
equivalent of modified or crude isocyanates derived from
methylenebis-(4-phenylisocyanate), toluene diisocyanate and
polymethylene polyphenylisocyanate. Test Method C - Unheated
trichlorobenzene-toluene-dibutylamine establishes the isocyanate
content of modified or crude isocyanates derived from
methylenebis(4-phenylisocyanate), toluene diisocyanate, and
polymethylene polyphenylisocyanate. This test procedure can also be
used to evaluate isomer mixtures of methylenebis(phenylisocyanate) and toluene diisocyanate.
