Polyhedron Laboratories provides testing services for all plastics materials and products, including Nylon 6/6. In addition tomaterials and quality assurance testing, Polyhedron Laboratories can perform chemical resistance and failure analysis. All tests are performed to ASTM standards.
Nylon 6/6 is a semi-crystalline polyamide composed of polyhexamethyleneadiptimide. Nylon 6 and Nylon 6/6 are the two most common grades of nylon manufactured. The number refers to the number of carbons that occur on each side ofthe amide groups, or nitrogen atoms.
Nylon 6/6 is a semi-crystalline compound. As a result, it has high tensile and flexural strength which results in a material that is wear, chemical and thermal resistant. It also exhibits high abrasion resistance and self-lubricating properties.
Nylon 6/6 is used mainly in fiber applications such as carpeting, clothing and tirecord due to its high wear resistance. Its high abrasion resistance and self-lubrication characteristics make it an excellent material for bearings, gears and other high-wear parts and components.
The most common properties of Nylon 6/6 are shown in the table below. Polyhedron Laboratories specializes in performing the tests listed in the above table
