Polyhedron – Lab Extrusion Compounding Testing
Polyhedron Laboratories offers laboratory scale
extrusion compounding services for the development of new and
improved materials. Thermoplastics can be blended with additives,
extruded, strand pelletized and then injection molded into ASTM
(American Society for Testing and Materials) test bars for
evaluation of properties. The lab extrusion compounding capabilities
that Polyhedron provides include mixing and
blending, as well as extrusion through a 1” high efficiency
extruder.
The ASTM Standard provides guidelines for injection molding test
samples of thermoplastic molding and extrusion materials (Active
Standard ASTM D3641-02). The ASTM standard description below is
paraphrased from the ASTM website (www.astem.org). Due to copyright
restrictions, Polyhedron Laboratories cannot make
available copies of standards. Standards can be found and are
available at www.astem.org, www.sae.org and www.iso.ch/iso/en
as well as other respective standards societies and authorities.
ASTM D3641-02 Standard Practice for Injection Molding Test
Specimens of Thermoplastic Molding and Extrusion Materials - This
procedure covers the general methods to be followed for injection
molding test samples of thermoplastic molding and extrusion
materials. This procedure is to be used to obtain uniformity in
methods of describing the various steps of the injection molding
process and to set up uniform standards for reporting these
conditions. The precise conditions required to prepare suitable
samples will vary for each plastic material.
