Electrometric Analytical Methods - ASTM Testing Laboratory

Polyhedron – Electrometric Analytical Methods
Polyhedron Laboratories utilizes electrometric analytical methods performed to ASTM standards, such as Acidity or Alkalinity by Potentiometric Titration (ASTM D2896-06), Chloride (ASTM F1277-02), Conductivity (ASTM D1125-95), and pH Measurement (ASTM E70-97). All ASTM standard descriptions below are paraphrased from the ASTM website (www.astem.org). Due to copyright restrictions, Polyhedron Laboratories cannot make available copies of standards. Standards can be found and are available at www.astm.org.

ASTM D2896-06 Standard Test Method for Base Number of Petroleum Products by Potentiometric Perchloric Acid Titration - This test procedure deals with the determination of basic specimens in products by titration with perchloric acid in glacial acetic acid. Test procedures A and B use different titration solvent volumes and sample weights. Additionally, this test method allows for the use of an alternative solvent structure, which eliminates the use of chlorobenzene. The constituents considered to have basic characteristics include amino compounds, organic and inorganic bases, basic salts of polyacidic bases, salts of weak acids (such as soaps), and salts of heavy metals.

ASTM F1277-02 Standard Test Method for Determination of Leachable Chloride in Materials by Ion-Selective Electrode Technique - This test procedure allows for the measurement of chloride ion leached from plastics and composites. Samples containing 7 to 6700 g Cl-/g sample can be analyzed using this method. The upper concentration threshold is extendable by the dilution of the test solution.

ASTM D1125-95 Standard Test Methods for Electrical Conductivity and Resistivity of Water - The following test procedures deal with the determination of the electrical conductivity and resistivity of water. The test methods are as follows – Test Method A - Field and Routine Laboratory Measurement of Non-Flowing (Static) Specimens (Range from 10 to 200,000 S/cm, Sections 12 to 18); Test Method B – Continuous In-Line Measurement (Range from 5 to 200,000 S/cm, Sections 19 to 23). The test procedures have been tested in reagent water.

ASTM E70-97 Standard Test Method for pH of Aqueous Solutions With the Glass Electrode - This test procedure defines the equipment and methods for the electrometric measurement of pH values of aqueous solutions with the glass electrode.

Acidity or Alkalinity by Potentiometric Titration ASTM D 2896
Chloride ASTM F 1277
Conductivity ASTM D 1125
Hydroperoxide by Dead Stop Iodometric Titration
pH Measurement ASTM E 70
